HC Deb 23 February 1949 vol 461 c290W
83. Mr. F. Harris

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies for what reasons the Land Control Board in Kenya can refuse approval to a transfer within their powers; and to what authority one may appeal against their decision.

Mr. Creech Jones

The Board may refuse consent to transfers of land if it considers that the applicant already has enough land, or interest therein, or that the conditions of the sale are onerous, or that the area of the land is likely to prove uneconomic. The Board may also refuse consent if it objects to the proposed selling price or rent of the land. Appeals lie to the Land Control Appeal Tribunal which may refer questions of law to the Supreme Court whose decision on such questions is final.
