HC Deb 14 February 1949 vol 461 c118W
80. Mr. E. Fletcher

asked the Minister of Food whether he will now say what steps he is taking to ensure higher standards of hygiene in the handling and wrapping of meat and other food sold in retail shops.

Mr. Strachey

I fear that at the moment I can add nothing to the reply given to Questions by the hon. Members for East Harrow (Mr. Skinnard) and Marylebone (Sir W. Wakefield) on 24th January last.

84. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Minister of Food if his Working Party on hygienic methods of handling food has considered the question of wrapping bread in paper; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Strachey

My Department is looking at this problem but at all events for the present we shall not be able to require all bread to be wrapped, because of the shortage of suitable types of paper.
