§ 81. Mr. Turtonasked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether it is proposed to dismiss, on the ground of redundancy, temporary civil servants who are persons registered under the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944.
§ Mr. Glenvil HallThe discharge of redundant temporary non-industrial civil servants is governed by an agreement between the two sides of the Civil Service National Whitley Council. Departments have been instructed, in applying this agreement, to pay regard to the special claims for retention of temporary civil servants who are registered disabled persons to the extent of the current standard percentage prescribed by my right hon. Friend, the Minister of Labour and National Service, under Section 10 of the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944. In addition, it has been agreed that preference for retention may be given in individual cases to severely disabled persons who would have very substantial difficulty in obtaining suitable alternative employment or in adapting themselves to a change of work.
