§ 54. Mr. Bartlettasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that sheepskin rugs, which involve no foreign currency, are subject to Purchase Tax at the rate of 100 per cent. as against the 33⅓per cent. charged on all other floor coverings; and whether, in view of the tax relief already given on most other furniture and furnishings and in view of the increasing danger, of unemployment among the skilled workers in the trade, he will reduce the tax to the same level as that imposed upon competitive types of floor covering.
