§ Mr. E. L. Gandar Dowerasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware how difficult it is to purchase oversize underlinen and shirts, and that orders to make shirts cannot be fulfilled 217W owing to the impossibility of obtaining material; and what steps he will take to remedy the situation.
§ Mr. H. WilsonI am aware that shirt manufacturers cannot get as much cloth as they would like because the cloth is being exported. I am not aware of any real difficulty in buying normal outsize underwear though it has sometimes been necessary to help people who require unusually large sizes. Higher maximum prices and replacement of coupon losses are allowed so as to encourage production of outsize utility garments.
