HC Deb 21 September 1948 vol 456 c46W
36. Mr. Digby

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will restore the grant of £50 a year to battery and company quartermasters, granted in paragraph 643 of the pre-war Territorial Army Regulations, in view of the difficulty in recruiting quartermaster sergeants who have sufficient time to keep ledgers.

Mr. Shinwell

No payment to battery and company quartermaster sergeants was generally authorised before the war in units which had a quartermaster on their establishment. As full-time quartermasters are now provided for major units of the Territorial Army, it was not considered necessary to re-introduce the special payments to quartermaster sergeants, but I am arranging for the matter to be further examined.
