§ 126. Mr. Byersasked the Minister of Education the amount of money which is provided by His Majesty's Government for the furtherance of athletics in this country; and whether it is possible to make a substantial increase in this amount in the near future.
§ Mr. TomlinsonThe sum included in the current Vote of my Department for development of sports and games and allied activities under the Physical Training and Recreation Act, 1937, is £350,000, as compared with £150,000 in last year's Vote. In addition there is provision of £316,000 for direct grants in aid of Youth Service, as compared with £240,000 last year. On my present information I am satisfied that this provision, together with that made by local education authorities, is enough to meet reasonable requirements.
