HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 cc9-10W
Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that Nos. 5 and 7. Kaulbachstrasse, Wuppertal-Elberfeld, have been requisitioned for the occupation of a British officer and his wife in each case, that the former has six living rooms, that the latter until requisitioned housed three complete families, 27 German people; and whether he will give instructions that these houses are to be derequisitioned or part at least made available for the occupation of their German owners.

Mr. Mayhew

My information is that 12 Germans were necessarily moved from Nos. 5 and 7 Karlsbachstrasse in July, 1946, to provide accommodation for families of the staff at the adjacent British Military Hospital. The houses at present accommodate four British adults, four British children and two German servants. Other suitable accommodation is not available and it is not my intention to ask for these properties to be derequisitioned.
