HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 c37W
132. Mr. J. Lewis

asked the Minister of Health in view of the facts contained in the leaflet, a copy of which has been sent him, issued on 30th July on compulsory pasteurisation of milk by the National Anti-Vaccination League, how far he recommends pasteurisation as effective in preventing the spread of typhoid fever in those circumstances where untreated fresh milk might be the carrier.

Mr. Bevan

My information is that the cause of the Montreal outbreak mentioned in the leaflet was never definitely established. I am satisfied that efficient pasteurisation is effective in preventing the spread of typhoid fever in circumstances where untreated fresh milk might be the source of infection.
