117. Mr. E. P. Smith
asked the Minister of Transport what machinery exists in his Department for the comparative study of international road and rail transport particularly where such transport interesects.
§ Mr. Barnes
Technical questions such as those arising out of the control of road and rail interesections are kept under review internationally by bodies on which the Ministry and the British Transport Commission are represented. The lifting barrier type of level crossing gate normally used on the Continent which the hon. Member has in mind is well known to road and rail engineers in this country. It is perhaps more suited to continental traffic conditions than to ours.
