HC Deb 20 September 1948 vol 456 cc30-1W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Supply if, in view of the criticisms of the Public Accounts Committee on the use of petrol by Government Departments, he will have an inquiry made into the transport of the department of the Chief Inspector of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Chislehurst, with a view to ascertaining the number of light loads in large lorries, empty journeys, and the use of cars by officers for other than official business.

Mr. G. R. Strauss

No. Substantial reductions have been made in petrol consumption during the past year and I am satisfied that every economy is observed in the use of transport and petrol at this establishment.
