THE EARL OF MANSFIELDasked His Majesty's Government whether they will state the total acreage planted by the Forestry Commission during the season 1947–1948, giving separate figures for Scotland, England and Wales, and the numbers of acres of each species, both coniferous and hardwood.
§ LORD LUCAS OF CHILWORTHI have been asked to reply on behalf of my noble friend Lord Huntingdon. The figures required are given in the following table:
is regretted that the information desired is not yet available. The accounting year of the Forestry Commission ends on September 30, and although actual planting ceased in late April or early May, the figures for which the noble Earl asks will have to be calculated on the complete returns for the whole of the forestry year. I am afraid it will be some little time before all these returns and accounts have been received and classified.
House adjourned at ten minutes before six o'clock.
