§ 90. Mr. A. Lewisasked the Postmaster-General what is the definition of a Post Office engineering technician; how long the training of such a technician takes; and what certificates are needed to obtain this grade.
§ Mr. HobsonTechnicians are defined as men who are fully qualified and competent to construct, install, demonstrate, test or maintain telecommunications equipment of a highly intricate character calling for a considerable degree of theoretical knowledge, or employed on planning and estimating duties, or on responsible duties in connection with contractors' works. The training of a technician normally consists of two years as a youth-in-training followed by about three years as a skilled workman. No specific technical certificates are prescribed for admission to the grade.
