§ 6. Mr. Parkerasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations whether he is aware that revenue derived from excess profits duty and trade profits, especially in Basutoland, between 1943 and 1946 went up from 55,430 to £76,570; and what steps are being taken to reduce prices.
§ Mr. Gordon-WalkerThe answer to the first part of the question is "Yes." Prices in Basutoland necessarily depend in the main upon the prices in the Union of South Africa, and a system of price control was established during the war based upon that in force in the Union. The High Commissioner will be consulted about the present position.
