§ 102. Sir J. Mellorasked the Minister of Transport why he has required the Warwickshire County Council to reduce their compliment of roadmen, already reduced from the pre-war figure of 1,400 to 800, by a further reduction of 180; whether he is aware that the roads of that county are deteriorating; and whether he will give further consideration to the position.
§ Mr. CallaghanThis reduction is in accordance with the Government's intention that more labour should be available for the export and import-saving industries. The reduced number should be sufficient to prevent any undue deterioration in the state of the roads.
