HL Deb 08 July 1948 vol 157 c688WA
LORD BARNBY

asked His Majesty's Government whether, in regard to the announced drastic limitation of permissible withdrawals of funds by intending emigrants to Canada, they will now say whether these alterations followed consultations on this matter with the Dominion of Canada Government and that of the Province of Ontario in accordance with the provisions of the British North America Act, or were those Governments merely notified of the intended changes.

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (LORD PAKENHAM)

The Canadian authorities were notified of the intended changes. As these matters are the concern of the Canadian Government and Parliament it was not necessary for the United Kingdom Government to communicate their views or intentions to any other Canadian authority.

House adjourned at three minutes past eleven o'clock.
