§ 118. Mr. Price-White
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the length of the sentence for which Gordon Miles, Oaklea, Westfield Park, Pontefract, aged 19, was committed to Stafford Prison; how much still remains to be served; and for what offence was originally committed to prison.
§ Mr. Ede
On 9th October, Mr. Miles was sentenced to six months' imprisonment for failing to submit to a medical examination under the National Service Acts. His case had already been before the appellate tribunal, but the passing of this sentence of imprisonment entitled him to make a further appeal to the tribunal. On 30th December, the tribunal registered 185W him conditionally in the register of conscientious objectors and on 2nd January I authorised his release from prison and recommended the remission of the remainder of his sentence.
