§ Mr. Osborneasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that Mr. G. Andrews of 6, Wilson Street, Cleethorpes, who joined the N.F.S. as a fireman in September, 1938, has just been notified that his employment is terminated, at a time when he is on sick leave and dangerously ill; and whether he will investigate this matter, and reconsider the man's dismissal.
§ Mr. EdeMr. Andrews was one of a number of members of the National Fire Service employed on building maintenance and repair who were recently declared redundant and discharged owing to the restrictions which have had to be placed on such work. While I regret that he was ill at the time to retain him in the Service after his colleagues had been discharged would have been preferential treatment not warranted by the facts of the case as reported to me.
