HC Deb 10 February 1948 vol 447 cc53-4W
Mr. Granville

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware of the serious shortage of materials for the building of overhead lines, including poles, steel cross arms, insulators and copper wire in the power and electrical supply industries in East Suffolk; and if he will take immediate steps to see that a higher allocation is made to meet urgent and immediate requirements.

Mr. Gaitskell

The Departments concerned are doing everything in their power to make good the shortages which do not appear to be greater in East Suffolk than elsewhere. Meanwhile, as the licensing authority for wooden poles, my Ministry will continue, as far as possible to meet urgent and immediate requirements within those priority categories to which the issue of licences must in present circumstances be restricted.
