HC Deb 09 February 1948 vol 447 cc11-2W
63. Mr. Leslie

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether in view of the economic position of the country and the urgent need for the production of home grown foodstuffs, he will take action either by Order in Council, or legislation, to safeguard allotment holders from having their allotments derequisitioned for a definite period.

Mr. T. Williams

By an Order in Council made under the Supplies and Services (Transitional Powers) Act, 1945, land requisitioned for allotments may be held until December, 1950. I have urged local authorities to retain such land, but it is sometimes necessary in the national interest to release wartime sites for approved development, mainly housing.
