§ Mr. D. J. Williamsasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that many of the new industries in the South Wales Development Area are experiencing difficulties in obtaining supplies of raw materials; that as a result considerable numbers of workers have already been dismissed; and if, in view of the serious unemployment problem in the area, he will give special attention to this matter.
§ Mr. H. WilsonI am aware that new industries in the South Wales Development Area as in other parts of the country are in some cases having difficulties in obtaining supplies of scarce raw materials, but my information does not support the suggestion of my hon. Friend that considerable unemployment has been caused thereby. I am keeping this matter under constant review and although it may not be possible in present circumstances to meet all requirements, preferential treatment will continue to be given to firms in Development Areas within the limits of the materials available.
