54. Mr. De la Bèreasked the Minister of Agriculture whether in view of the increasing need to make this country self-supporting in foodstuffs, he will inquire how, in Denmark, one acre can support two persons as regards the provision of food, whereas in this country the approximate figures are one person to one and a half acres.
§ Mr. T. WilliamsThe number of persons that can be supported per acre depends upon such factors as standards of 215W consumption, dietetic habits, wage levels, soil, climate, farming efficiency and intensity of land utilisation. The hon. Member's method of comparison would, therefore, be misleading.
