65. Dr. S. Jeger

asked the Minister of Health whether in view of the pressure of work on doctors, the long waiting in doctors' waiting-rooms and the formal nature of the certificates involved, he will remove the necessity for patients requiring to have their eyes tested by opticians to obtain doctors' certificates saying so.

Mr. Bevan

This requirement was instituted in the light of advice received from the medical profession and I should not feel justified in abolishing it except on professional advice.
