HC Deb 02 December 1948 vol 458 c212W
88. Mr. Erroll

asked the Minister of Agriculture what is the present accommodation of the National Institute of Agricultural Engineering; whether it is intended that this accommodation should be permanent; how suitable it is for its purpose; and what arrangements are being made for the accommodation of the permanent staff.

Mr. G. Brown

The National Institute of Agricultural Engineering is located at Wrest Park, Silsoe, Bedfordshire. The property, which comprises the house itself, outbuildings, workshops and cottages, and some 225 acres of land, is being adapted to meet the permanent needs of the Institute and is suitable for its purpose. Most married members of the staff live in prefabricated bungalows let by the Ampthill Rural District Council or in cottages or houses in the grounds of Wrest Park. Living quarters for 88 persons are also available within the grounds for unmarried members of the staff.
