HC Deb 02 December 1948 vol 458 cc211-2W
87. Sir H. Morris-Jones

asked the Minister of Pensions, in view of the restrictions imposed on private manufacturers of artificial limbs, what steps he is now taking to provide patients under the National Health Service Act, 1946. with artificial limbs.

Mr. Marquand

I am not aware of any restrictions on private manufacturers of artificial limbs. National Health Service patients now have the advantage of the limb service which my Department has been providing hitherto for war pensioners only. The majority of limb makers are now contractors to my Ministry and negotiations are in progress with others who are interested in coming into the supply scheme. Orders have already been placed with some of the makers under contract, both for new limbs and repairs to existing limbs.
