HC Deb 21 April 1948 vol 449 cc143-4W
59. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Secretary of State for Air what are the prospects of N.C.O. aircrew personnel getting a commission; and what is the approximate percentage of those who have in fact got a commission since the war ended.

Mr. A. Henderson

I regret that owing to releases and other special factors the number of commissions granted since the end of the war would not furnish reliable guidance as to the normal prospects of aircrew entrants. I can, however, state that four out of five officers commissioned in the General Duties Branch of the R.A.F. since the end of the war have been selected from airmen aircrew. The majority of officers in this branch will continue to be chosen from aircrew and the proportion of the latter who receive commissions will, therefore, be substantial.
