§ 62. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyreasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the adverse visible balance of trade and the drain on our gold and dollar resources during the first quarter of 1948, the estimates contained in the Economic Survey for 1948 on both these points can still be considered accurate.
§ Sir S. CrippsThe balance of payments estimates given in the Economic Survey refer to the first half of 1948. Their accuracy can only be judged retrospectively and I am not therefore prepared to make any amendments to the estimates.
