HC Deb 28 October 1947 vol 443 cc64-5W
Mr. Skinnard

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will institute an independent inquiry into the strike disturbance at Buruta, Nigeria, as requested by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria; and whether he is aware that 1,200 labourers and 80 clerks have been paid off as a result of the strike.

Mr. Rees-Williams

As regards the first part of the Question, the answer is "No." I have already caused the Trades Union Congress of Nigeria to be informed that I am not prepared to agree that a Commission of Inquiry should be appointed. As regards the second part, I am asking the Acting Governor for the figures and I will write to the hon. Member when they are received.
