asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that there are no gas mantles to be had in Edinburgh, that shops do not know when they will be available and meanwhile light standards for students and others are so diminished as seriously to hamper their work; and what action he is taking to increase supplies.

No. My information is that considerable supplies were delivered in Edinburgh during the summer, and that the largest retailer had more than half of his in stock at the end of September. Edinburgh is receiving her fair share of supplies and will continue to do so.
