HC Deb 24 November 1947 vol 444 c245W
78. Mr. Grierson

asked the Minister of Food whether he has authorised the National Federation of Fish Friers to impose a condition of sale on fish and chips supplied to the public by local fish friers.

Dr. Summerskill

As my right hon. Friend told the hon. Member for Cambridge (Mr. Symonds) on 2nd July, fish and chips is so well known as a composite dish that he would not be justified in seeking to compel fish friers to supply them separately. No other advice or authority has been given to fish friers.

80. Mrs. Castle

asked the Minister of Food whether he will give a guarantee that there will be no reduction in the allocation of frying media to fish friers as a result of the reduction in the supplies of potatoes.

Dr. Summerskill

Owing to the difficult supply position I am unable to guarantee that there will be no change in allocations to fish friers or to any other class of consumer.
