HC Deb 11 November 1947 vol 444 c64W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Education what is the proportion of women to men now engaged in teaching in the national schools and in training to become teachers in those schools, respectively.

Mr. Tomlinson

Of the full-time teachers employed in schools maintained and assisted by local education authorities in England and Wales on 1st October, 1947, 34 per cent. were men and 66 per cent. were women. As I informed the hon. Member a fortnight ago, up-to-date information as to students in training for teaching is not yet available.
