§ 21. Lieut.-Colonel Kingsmillasked the Minister of Labour why it is necessary to obtain a permit from his Department in order to advertise in an Irish newspaper; why it is necessary to forward a draft of the advertisement in duplicate; and whether he will take steps to withdraw this order.
§ Mr. IsaacsI presume that the point which the hon. Member wishes to raise is whether an advertisement by a British employer in an Irish newspaper for someone to be employed in this country amounts to seeking to engage a person for employment in this country within the meaning of the Control of Engagement Order. The answer will depend on the exact circumstances of the case, but in any event, an employer desiring to insert such an advertisement would be well advised to apply for a permit in this country, as no person answering such an advertisement can be engaged otherwise than through a local office of my Ministry or an approved employment agency.
