HC Deb 11 November 1947 vol 444 c46W
68. Mr. Osborne

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware there is under-employment and short time in the hosiery trade owing to a shortage of yarn; what steps he is taking to increase the yarn supply; if he is satisfied with the steps so far taken; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Belcher

While there is not serious under-employment, the hosiery industry is affected by the general shortage of output from the primary textile industries due to lack of labour. The Government are taking all practicable steps to assist the textile industries to increase the total supply of yarn for all purposes.
