§ Mr. Henderson Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state in regard to Scotland as a whole, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Fife county and the burghs of Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Leven and St. Andrews, respectively, the number of new permanent houses licensed or approved by his Department since August, 1945; and what has been the effect in the case of each of these areas of the Government's subsequent curtailment of housing operations.
§ Mr. WoodburnThe following table gives the information asked for in the first part of the Question. As regards the latter part, I am sending the hon. Member a copy of a circular which I recently issued to all local authorities in Scotland, the broad effect of which is that available effort and materials should be concentrated in a balanced way upon completing a larger number of houses for occupation rather than dissipated by commencing the building of more houses than there are materials to complete.
