§ 106. Mr. Thomas Reidasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, what countries in the Commonwealth and Empire have made gifts in cash or kind during 1947 to Britain.
§ Mr. Gordon-WalkerGenerous assistance both in cash and in kind has been received in the United Kingdom this year from the peoples and Governments of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Southern Rhodesia. As regards the Colonial Empire, I understand that gifts in cash have been received from the Bechuanaland Protectorate, British Honduras, the Falkland Islands, the Gold Coast, Nigeria, Nyasaland, Tanganyika Territory and the Seychelles. Gifts in kind have come from British Guiana, Kenya, Nyasaland, Uganda, Northern Rhodesia, Tanganyika, Fiji and the Bahamas. I need hardly add that great numbers of private gift parcels continue to reach this country from Commonwealth countries. I should like on behalf of my right hon. Friend to take this opportunity of expressing once again the profound gratitude of the people and Government of the United Kingdom for the generous help which has been accorded so spontaneously by the peoples of the Commonwealth.
