Mr. Hurd

asked the Minister of Food how many prosecutions have been instituted since the inception of bread rationing to enforce the restrictions on bread consumption; and how many of these prosecutions have been successful.

Mr. Strachey

Between 21st July, 1946, and 31st August, 1947, 145 people have been prosecuted on 181 charges for offences in connection with the rationing and consumption of bread. Convictions were obtained on 176 of these charges.
