90. Lieut.-Colonel Clifton-Brownasked the Minister of Food if arrangements can be made whereby wooden containers now coming into this country with foreign vegetables and fruits are allocated and sold to British growers who are not allowed to purchase timber to make their own.
§ Dr. Edith SummerskillThe containers from abroad become the property of the final purchaser of the contents, who is usually the retailer, and I am afraid it would be uneconomic for my Department to have a scheme to gather them up from all the shops for allocation to growers. The growers or their agents are, of course, free to make their own arrangements to purchase these containers. If the hon. Member knows of any grower who is unable to secure the containers he requires,186W and will let me have particulars, I will look into it.
