HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c202W
Mr. Wilkes

asked the Secretary of State for Air what action is intended to be taken to relieve the position of men who volunteered for Regular engagement with the R.A.F. under the impression that their wives would receive a war service grant and who now, as a consequence of no war service grant being paid on a Regular engagement, find themselves and their families falling into grave financial difficulties.

Mr. P. Noel-Baker

Full publicity has been given to the ending of the war service grants scheme for the Regular forces. It was made clear in the White Paper on the new pay code that claims from men serving on Regular engagements could not be admitted, and the attention of all members of the Service was specially drawn to the point. Action was also taken to ensure that every volunteer for Regular service after the scheme had ended was made aware that he was not eligible for a war service grant.
