HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c218W
Mr. Garry Allighan

asked the Minister of Transport the numbers of motor-propelled vehicles, of all descriptions, licensed in 1938 and 1946, in the classes 8–12 h.p., 14–20 h.p., 22 h.p. and more.

Mr. Barnes

The only motor vehicles for which classification on a horsepower basis is available are private cars and the few other vehicles charged to duty on that basis. No census of licences current, classified according to horsepower, has been completed since 1938; but figures for 1946 will be available shortly and I will circulate them in the OFFICIAL REPORT. During the quarter ended 30th September, 1938, licences for cars were current as follow:

Over. Not over.
8 h.p. 556,864
8 12 867,275
12 14 197,893
14 20 213,205
20 22 26,448
22 82,706
1,944,391
