HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c196W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General if he is aware that 160 subscribers on the Middleton exchange, Lancashire, are not able to use their telephones; what are the reasons for these telephones being out of use; and when they are likely to be restored.

Mr. Burke

A cable fault has interrupted the service of 25 (not 160) subscribers at Middleton, Lancashire exchange. In view of the widespread damage resulting from the severe weather and the presence of explosive gas in the vicinity of the fault it is not possible to forecast the date on which the service All be restored, but I would assure the hon. Member that there will be no avoidable delay.
