HC Deb 12 March 1947 vol 434 c208W
Mr. Stokes

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster why it has been laid down that no machine tools may be made in Germany unless they are of antiquated design; and what use is being made of the machine tool designers in the German machine tool trade.

Mr. J. Hynd

No such rule has been laid down in the British zone. There is however a very large surplus of machine tools in Germany and the production of new ones is therefore limited, in view of the general shortages of fuel, labour and materials.
