HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 cc155-6W
Sir I. Fraser

asked the President of the Board of Trade what allocations of cotton piece goods for export are being made for the first quarter of this year, with particular reference to the allocation for South Africa.

Mr. H. Wilson

Except in the case of Burma and certain Colonial territories, no allocations of cotton will be made for exports to individual countries but approximately half of the total export allocation of 15,000 tons will be available for export as woven goods to Commonwealth territories and hard currency markets. I have no doubt that exporters to South Africa will be able to obtain a share in this production.
