HC Deb 11 March 1947 vol 434 cc156-7W
88 Brigadier Low

asked the President of the Board of Trade if lie will issue a White Paper setting out the present situation of the tourist and holidays trade in the United Kingdom and the functions in detail of the British Tourist and Holidays Board, or if he will make a statement.

Mr. H. Wilson

No, Sir. I do not consider that a White Paper would serve any useful purpose at this stage of the existence of the newly formed British Tourist and Holidays Board, and I would refer the hon. and gallant Member to the reply given to my hon. Friend, the Member for Hendon North (Mrs. Ayrton Gould) on 21st January. The Board's functions are to foster and develop the tourist, catering and holiday services, and His Majesty's Government prefer to allow the Board itself to formulate plans for its activities within that broad definition.
