HC Deb 04 March 1947 vol 434 cc33-4W
52. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the numbers and the annual cost in salaries of the Board of Cable and Wireless Limited, before the company passed into Government owner ship; and the corresponding numbers and cost at present.

Mr. Dalton

So far as I can ascertain the previous cost of the Board of Cable and Wireless Limited (the Operating Company, as distinct from the Holding Company) was about 40,000 a year. There was also a large contingent liability of more than £11,000 a year for pensions to the managing directors. The corresponding figures at present are 10,000 a year and nil. The Board, which previously numbered 13, now numbers five.
