HC Deb 21 January 1947 vol 432 c35W
Sir E. Graham-Little

asked the Minister of Education how many pupils are now attending the national grammar schools, technical schools, and modern schools, respectively; and whether she proposes to maintain these respective proportions when the school age is raised.

Miss Wilkinson

In January, 1946, the number of pupils attending maintained and assisted schools recognised as secondary schools was 1,268,531, of whom 488,431, 59,918 and 719,682 were attending grammar, technical and modern schools respectively. The raising of the age will not of itself affect these figures, except in so far as the number of pupils, in modern schools, and, therefore, the proportion, will be automatically increased by the addition of the extra age group.
