HC Deb 27 February 1947 vol 433 cc333-4W
130. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Education whether he is aware that more than 200 students from South Wales and Monmouthshire recently took up training under the Ministry of Education Training Scheme; that many have made great sacrifices to train themselves to enable them to continue their special work in Wales; that their course of training is completed at the end of February; that they are now being informed that there are no positions for them in Wales; and what steps does he propose to take to remedy this position.

Mr. Tomlinson

I am aware that students from some areas in Wales cannot all find posts in their home areas. I have encouraged the local education authorities in Wales to engage teachers in anticipation of increased requirements due to the raising of the school leaving age, and I hope that this will improve the situation
