HC Deb 19 February 1947 vol 433 c177W
71. Mr. Skeffington-Lodge

asked the Minister of Food whether, having regard to the scheme already operated by the Regional Commissioner of the Rhine, Westphalia district, he will make such arrangements as will enable food contributions on a community basis to be made from British cities to distressed areas on the Continent.

Dr. Summerskill

I understand that the Regional Commissioner in Rhine-Westphalia did on one occasion handle a bulk consignment of food sent by air through "Save Europe Now." Apart from this isolated case no scheme is operated by him. My right hon. Friend is, however, considering whether arrangements can be made which would allow food collected in. this country for relief abroad to be shipped in bulk.
