HC Deb 10 February 1947 vol 433 c16W
89. Mr. Shawcross

asked the Minister of Supply the estimated production for 1947 of private motor cars and commercial vehicles, respectively.

Mr. Wilmot

315,000 and 167,500, respectively, Sir.

9o. Mr. Shawcross

asked the Minister of Supply why the number of private motor-cars produced during the year 1946 was only 219,162, whereas the target for the year, which he stated in a reply to a question by the hon. Member for West Coventry, on 15th April, 1946, likely to be achieved was 373,000.

Mr. Wilmot

The failure to reach the target was due to unforeseen difficulties in reconversion, which set back production in the earlier months.
