HC Deb 03 February 1947 vol 432 cc290-1W
102. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Works what schedule exists in his Department of essential paint ingredients to meet the needs of the whole or any specific part of the coming year.

Mr. Tomlinson

No schedule exists but the paint and distemper requirements of the building programme, including an assessment of the linseed oil content thereof, have been estimated by my Department up to the end of 1947.

103. Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Works what special arrangements he is making to ensure that the increasing demand for paint will be satisfactorily met; and whether he is satisfied that the W.B.A. priority scheme is meeting all the needs of the housing programme.

Mr. Tomlinson

My right hon. Friends the President of the Board of Trade and the Minister of Food are making every effort to obtain increased supplies of the ingredients necessary to paint production. In reply to the second part of the Question, the W.B.A. priority scheme is in the main achieving its object, but I have the arrangements for distribution under constant review.
