§ 85. Mr. J. E. Haireasked the Minister of Food if he will consider discontinuing the imports of luxury fruits and thus reduce expenditure of sterling abroad and relieve transport for more useful purposes.
§ Mr. StracheyI can assure my hon. Friend that the importation of fruits such as tangerines to which I take it he refers is only permitted where they do not adversely affect our balance of payments position nor draw off any shipping required for other more vital purposes. I must say I think these fruits have been very welcome.
